How Can I Communicate My Best Self Online? – Breaktime Breakthroughs

Are you on social media? How long do you spend your time on Facebook, Tiktok, Instagram, and other social networking platforms? In this episode of Breaktime Breakthroughs on Plus Network, Ms. Doreen Cooper, Trainer, Speaker, and Content Creator shares a fun and informative discussion about social media and how we can present our best selves online.

These days, when we apply for a job or we’re about to meet a client, our prospective employers initially look at our online profiles. The question is: what do your social media accounts say about you? Our social media accounts communicate something about who we are. Here are some tips we can apply as we use social media:

1. Think Before We Click – We might’ve heard this tagline years ago, but it remains relevant until now. Let us be mindful of what we post online. We may be itching to post a rant or story on our Facebook page, but think about how our posts will reflect on us. We can ask ourselves: Is this something that adds value to us and to others? Not everything can be posted online.

2. Choose Our Profile Pictures Carefully – Studies show that the best profile pictures are solo shots, not taken too far while smiling and showing our teeth. There’s a saying that our most natural smile is when we say the letter “A”.

3. We Represent Our Companies – Sometimes, we think: “My account, my rules!” But the fact that we are connected with our workmates or we’re identified as an employee of a company or organization, we become their unofficial brand ambassadors. We have to think about the kind of image our workplaces have that we need to project online.

It’s not yet too late to update our social media accounts so that we can communicate our best selves not just to our friends and family, but to others who may be our future employers. For more tips and stories from industry leaders, visit PLUS Network on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
