They are&nbsp;eager, ready and ripe to establish their\ncareer progress and footprints.&nbsp;I sense that some bosses, mostly Gen X,\nare hesitant with this takeover, because they feel that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>They worked harder than Gen Y, at the time\nthey were in the same position;<\/li><li>The Gen Y speak too much when in fact, Gen Y\nis just asserting;<\/li><li>The Gen Y do as they please and don\u2019t listen\nto the counsel of elders;<\/li><li>The Gen Y might make a mistake and they will\nneed to solve it for Gen Y.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In passing the baton of leadership, let us\nremind ourselves these:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a look at what goes beyond work and back\nto the purpose of why you are where you&nbsp;are.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What drives you to work? Why do you do what\nyou do? As you go through life, you know that there is purpose and reason for\neverything.&nbsp;Guide the younger generation as to how you have found the\ncenter of your passion and profession. Find a common good ground of purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sharing &amp; Learning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Share your story. Allow the next generation to\nderive their own learning from it. Do not shove it down their\nthroats.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enumerate the learnings from your context and\nhow it continues to be a reminder for you. Assure them that learning is\nunending and it is the cornerstone of excellence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Vulnerability &amp; Authenticity<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Show them your vulnerability and authenticity\nas much as your resilience and resolve to become better. As a leader, we were\ntaught to be definite and decisive. Vulnerability speaks of weakness. However,\nshowing vulnerability provides the opportunity for team members to shine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, it is when you embrace your\nvulnerabilities that you become authentic. It is also in being vulnerable that\nyou resolve to embrace flaws and the drive to be better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Freedom &amp; Ownership<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Allow them to do their own thing. Have them\nevaluate their own performance. Discuss with them their learnings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The freedom to learn from mistakes can be one\nof life\u2019s best teachable moments. Instead of being taught, what really matters\nis what one experienced and the learnings that go with it. With freedom comes\nresponsibility; with responsibility comes accountability; with accountability\ncomes ownership; with ownership comes the mindset of continuous improvement.\nThis is how we develop habits of wanting to achieve more and soar high. The\nstake of letting go and passing on the ownership allows the person to take on\nresponsibility for their actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Listening &amp; Acceptance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ask for feedback and ways to improve your\npersonal and professional relationship. It is in listening that we understand\nand it is in understanding that we are understood. We need to be&nbsp;open and\nobjective about criticisms or concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acceptance is key to get the buy in and gear\nit towards achievement.&nbsp;&nbsp;Connection starts with you listening and\naccepting feedback&nbsp;wholeheartedly. This is when you can truly connect and\nshow you care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meaningful Connections<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you are old and gray, you would want to\nrecount the people that made an impact in your life. Wouldn\u2019t you like&nbsp;to\nhave that effect on the people you work with?&nbsp;&nbsp;Be curious and bridge\nthe gap.&nbsp;Now is the time to make meaningful connections. Strike up a\nconversation and get to know your team members better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of age, status, or position, roll\nup your sleeves and have that desire to develop leaders -leaders who are better\nthan you. Strive for this kind of legacy.&nbsp;Time is ticking and you do not\nwish to miss on passing the baton.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a message to the Gen X Bosses, from
